She Didn't Let Me Fall

On Wednesday evening, Emma took me wall climbing as a birthday gift. We both like climbing but since I'm nearly twice her weight, I wasn't convinced that she would be able belay me if I would slip. We had climbed once before with one of Emma's friends and all went well. I thought to myself, maybe she'll be able to handle me.

After her first climb of the evening, it was my turn. My concern about her ability forced me to ensure that I didn't slip on the way to the top of the wall. Then I arrived at the top. If I was to descend, I was going to have to trust Emma. Well, I'm here to write the story. Emma did a fine job thanks to her following instructions and using physics.

There is a little life lesson in this dad and daughter time: as our children grow, we can entrust them with important responsibilities. Parents must come to a point when we trust our kids to handle difficult tasks and issues. Then we will see them as the capable young people that they are growing up to be. After we train them, we give them a trust. Then we see them rise to the challenge.
